Allergens, Get Ready to “Bite The Dust!”

clean air

After a long and cold Connecticut winter, there may not be anything more exciting than knowing spring is finally here! No more snow, instead there will be flowers and grass, and...dust? Well, that's not what you wanted to hear, I'm sure, but it is the unfortunate reality- the price we have to pay for a beautiful season of sun and flowers.

This time of year, dust, pollen, and other allergens are more prominent in the air around us. If you have allergies, this season can be an absolute nightmare. You may not even be able to fully enjoy the lovely spring weather outside, because of the dust and pollen in the air.

But what can you do if the dust has also infiltrated the air inside your home? That’s where air quality comes in. Carmine’s Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning is here to help you get your air clean! Continue reading for tips on what you can do to improve your air quality, and why it is so important.

Make Air Quality a Priority This Spring

healthissuesIf you want to really want the dust and pollen in your air to "bite the dust," then it's time to make your air quality a priority.

Having good air quality means that your air has minimal dust, mold, pollen, dander, etc. All of these airborne contaminants can negatively impact your health and your home.

If you are breathing in air that is heavily laden with dust and other allergens, it can cause headaches, breathing problems, skin and eye irritation, and headaches.

Not to mention that excessive dust can settle on just about every surface on your home, possibly damaging the finish on some of your furniture.

Keep up With Replacing Your Air Filter

airfilterOne key way that you can improve your indoor air quality is by regularly replacing or cleaning your HVAC unit's filter. If you have a disposable filter (most people do), it should usually be changed about every 60 to 90 days.

During the spring, when there is more dust and pollen in the air, it is recommended that you change your air filter every 30 to 60 days.

If you have a more eco-friendly washable filter, you should still take it out and clean it thoroughly about once a month. Maintaining a clean air filter ensures that the filter doesn't become clogged with dust, dirt, and other debris so that it can continue to work effectively.

Enjoy All The Benefits of Having Clean Air

breatheeasyIf you make sure to keep your air filter clean or replace it frequently, you will start to notice that your allergy symptoms will get better, your eyes and throat won't be irritated as much, and you won't have headaches as often.

You may even notice that your home smells better since there is less dust and mold in the air to make it smell stale or musty!
